NMU to host Lakers in Final Regular Season Series. Saturday: Senior Night!

Northern still in fight for 1st round playoff bye

Home ice secured for playoffs, will it be first or second weekend?

NMU will host the Lake State Lakers this coming weekend. The Lakers will travel to Marquette after being swept in Fairbanks. The Lakers, after being above the `Cats much of the year in the standings - now find themselves to be in the lower-third of the CCHA rankings. The Lakers needs at a win or more. The Wildcats are fighting for a first round bye, also for revenge for their two losses in the Soo in December. The Wildcats could still potentially secure 4th place - but they will require at least 3-points, and some help from other teams. On Saturday, arrive by 7:10 PM for Senior Night activities. Six seniors will be recognized on Saturday night, one of the largest senior classes in a number of years: Matt Butcher, Alan Dorich, Ray Kaunisto, TJ Miller, Billy Smith and Brian Stewart.

Other weekend activities:

Friday:

• Senior Blue Line Lunch, 11:30 AM at the Holiday Inn, $10/person
• Annual Silent Auction before and during game.

Saturday:

• 3 for 1 Saturday. Tickets include admission to womens and mens basketball games prior to hockey. Check with NMU ticket outlets for details.
• Senior trading card night, autographs following the game.
• Arrive early for Senior Night recognition.
• 4th Period reception at Casa Calabria following game.
• Pet food and toy collection for MQT Co. Humane Society. Drop off at the door upon arrival.

NMU Alum and UAA Head Coach - David Shyiak's UAA Seawolves take on UA_ tonight and Saturday in their Governor's Cup Series

UA_ is winless the last three years and UAA has dominated the series since Shyiak's arrival. NMU fans around the country will be rooting for the Seawolves tonight.

Wildcats Split Weekend, After 4 to 5 Loss

NMU lost their lead in Saturday's game early in the second period. Following that, each team jockeyed to tie up or lead the game. A very exciting closing minute of hockey ended the game, unfortunately with the Big Blue Evil Empire taking the game 5 to 4. NMU dropped to sixth place in the CCHA standings by late Saturday night. NMU is still in the fight for potentially 4th place - as Alaska and UNO have no more conference games. NMU is 3-points behind Alaska (4th) and the `Cats hold the tie breaker.
